Nothing fascinates Koreans like another Korean doing something
The following is a loose translation by my friend who will probably be mortified that I’m posting this. It’s from an article on the Korea Times Web site (presumably the LA edition) plugging the film festival that my short film is playing in tomorrow. (If you want, you can read the original article here: http://rurl.org/ica.)
Children’s Film Festival - “Oh movies, let’s plaay”
In spite of living in the Southern California, the center of movies, t’s not easy to encounter movies whose level is truly aimed at children. Of course blockbuster animated movies open regularly from Disney or large Hollywood studios, but movies that are worth setting off a more novel or new interest are hard to find. A festival of movies that shakes off parents’ concerns of this type is opening at Red Cat at Walt Disney Hall. At this film festival, from the 16th to March 2 at the Red Cat Theater (631 W. 2nd St) 70 works from short animation to live action etc children’s movies from 16 countries will be screened. Especially at this festival, starting with Seattle-area Korean Wes Kim’s work Cookies for Sale, various kinds of prizewinning children’s movie will be exhibited. Films ranging from debut works to Oscar winner Will Vinton’s special exhibition will open, and works from Swedish directors, who are the front runners in the world of European animation will be introduced. As for this festival, which is a parade of live action movies and animation that makes use of animals and animated characters, which children like, the running time of the movies is short so children won’t feel boredom and can easily watch the movies. Find out about the main screening schedule for this festival, which is supported by Cal Arts. Admission fee is 5 dollars. Inquiries: (213) 237-2800, www.redcat.org.
