Nice. Good to see Pizza Hut get back to its roots. Remember when you’d ride your Huffy three-speed down to “The Hut” — as we called it back then — and walk through the double doors and step onto the dirt floor of our ancestors? Remember?

And how Manji would always greet you with a yucca root paste that she was experimenting with. Or how Jongo Bet, the rascal, would tell fantastic stories of flying machines or round-legged elephants that farted smoke. Oh, silly Jongo.

Man, haggling the exchange rate of the women and children captured from the rival village for a hand tossed Super Supreme was what I lived for. Mostly because the drought ravaged our crops and way of life.

The Hut was always there for us. It’s where we gathered, told stories and passed on our history. It was a place where And the Beat Goes On by the Whispers could play on the same juke box as Chicago’s 25 or 6 to 4. It was our community and the safest place to give birth.

Yes, this is The Hut of my youth— of our past— and now, of our future.
